I could not have asked for a better first birthday for our sweet Adeline and Maralee.

The day was perfect. After the storms last week God graced Saturday with radiant sunshine and a relaxing breeze; perfect for our outdoor party in the park. Raleigh and I headed out to the site early to set up and we ran across a momma duck and her cute little ducklings. What a precious and humorous way for us to start our day...

12 months old – How Far We’ve Come

twins crying

In honor of Mother’s Day, I began reading a new devotional in the mornings called Day-Votions for Mothers by Rebecca Barlow Jordan.  The other morning  I read the devotional entitled “Passin’ It On.”  She quotes Deuteronomy 4:9, “Do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live.  Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” She says that children are often the mirrors of your life and how we should share with them at least three important lessons that we’ve learned in life so far...

Take Heart

Has God ever given you a shock so big that it felt like your stomach went through your toes? Well, staring down at the pregnancy test that is exactly how I felt. Shocked. Seeing as how at that precise moment I had a ten month old on my hip staring at the two blues lines that symbolized my pregnancy, shocked is about the best word to use for that moment in my life...

Christen’s Kitchen: Twins’ 1st Birthday Cakes & Cupcakes

As some of you know, I have been on a quest to learn how to make birthday cakes.  I love watching all of the cake decorating shows on t.v. and am totally into the current fascination of cupcakes.  So, for the twins’ first birthday I challenged myself to make two smash cakes and cupcakes for all of our guests.  For a good month I tried out different recipes and tested my cake decorating skills….Raleigh had never consumed so much icing in one month (at least, since he has been an adult; can’t testify for his childhood years!).  Finally, I came up with some perfect recipes that really hit the spot at their birthday party...

Chocolate Makes a Mom Happy!

Sitting here, Sunday evening, my heart rests easy tonight. After a blissful Mother’s Day weekend, I feel so very fortunate to be celebrating this holiday. Our weekend could not have been more perfect in the laziest of ways. Friday night we watched a movie with friends; having ourselves a grand night in talking over chocolate chip cookies instead of paying attention to what was on-screen. Saturday morning we got up and I made pancakes – banana for the girls and chocolate chips for me and Raleigh. I have a funny feeling that if I want to keep feeding them healthy food I’m going to have to learn to like bananas over chocolate…I still have some time before they figure out what chocolate tastes like, right...

Also, I have to throw these two out there as honorable mentions, they were extremely well received.
