You might be a good girl if...
- you like to make lists. Lots of lists.
- you carry the weight of the world, the moon, and half of Jupiter on your shoulders.
- you feel responsible for managing other people's opinions of you.
- you see there's work to be done, you're the one who does it.
- it's easier for you to try and please God than it is for you to trust him.
- when people ask how you are doing, your first response is some version of "Fine."
- you have ever said, "I'm trying hard to live for God!" and you think that's the goal.
- you wonder what it would be like to rest.
Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author of Made to Crave says, "Let Emily uncage the free spirit Jesus invites us to embrace. With tenderness, raw honesty, and the most beautiful picture of grace I've ever read, this book is a must-read."
Sweet sisters, please join me in reading Grace for the Good Girl in our community here at The Uncontainable Truth! I've already started reading and just had to share a little bit of Emily's heart with all of you. She challenges us to rip off our good girl masks so the girl inside of us can breathe. She says, "Behind the mask, you are just a woman who longs to believe that Jesus makes a difference, but you have had difficulty collecting the evidence of it in your own life. I believe that women need to talk about the ways we hide, the longing to be known, the fear in the knowing. Beyond that, I believe in the life-giving power of story, in the beauty of vulnerability, and in the strength that is found in weakness."
I couldn't agree with her more. I relate so much to the story that Emily is sharing and I hope that you will too. Our study begins next week so go ahead and purchase your book at your local bookstore or online. The study will last for eight weeks so mark your calendars each Wednesday starting next week (9-28) to the week before Thanksgiving (11-16). For Week One, go ahead and read the Introduction and Chapters 1-3. Trust me, you will read through them in no time!!!! We will begin our study with discussing these chapters. Also, Emily suggests that we all journal our thoughts after each chapter and try to memorize the Truth to Remember verses. She says that this is just for us to keep in our hearts and minds to help us when we feel like we are hiding behind our masks.
If you are going to participate in the study, please leave a quick comment below. I know some of you may be like me and have other studies going on, but I urge you to make time for this study too (especially if you answered yes to one of the questions above!). I will be reading my small group bible study in the mornings and this study before I go to bed at night. If you are following a Daily Bible Reading, maybe try to read a little bit of this book during your lunch break...you will be refreshed for the rest of the day! I hope you join us next week! Can't wait to get started!!!!!!!!!
"Emily Freeman is one of those rare writers: profoundly biblical, lyrical, transparent - memorable."
