Hello sisters! I am so looking forward to digging into this study with all of you. Just the name of the book, A Confident Heart, leaves me asking, "How can I get that?" Does it make you feel that way too?
Well, Renee jumps right in with describing her own desire to have a confident heart in Chapter One. She says that the biggest thing that keeps her from living a confident life is her own self-doubt. *She says, "Self doubt blocks the promise of God's power and truth to change us from the inside out so that we can live with a confident heart." Renee describes in the beginning of this chapter how she never felt like she could be loved because her daddy left her family when she was younger. She described in her book trailer that we watched last week that she was afraid to even ride on the carousel in fear that her dad would leave when she was out of sight.
What is your earliest memory of doubting yourself or feeling insecure?
I remember when I was in kindergarten how I was the shyest girl in the class. My mom entered me into a local beauty pageant and I was the very first girl to go out on the bright stage. Timidly walking out there in my borrowed dress, I was so insecure that my dad literally had to come pick me off of the stage because I was crying so bad. I was so scared to be in the spotlight. It wasn't until I became a cheerleader in the eighth grade that I lost that fear of stage-fright. At the time, I didn't realize that it was an insecurity but now, whenever I get shy, I begin to doubt my words and actions. I don't always feel good enough and this leads to my own lack of self-confidence.
**Renee goes on to tell us that God doesn't want us stuck in a cycle of defeat or living in the shadows of doubt. She explains that she has found lasting confidence by living daily in the security of God's promises. "He's led me beyond believing in Him to really believing Him by relying on the power of His words and living like they are true no matter what my feelings tell me. I've found that when I choose to dwell in the assurance of Whose I am and who I am in Him, I have a confident heart."
What do you think hinders you most from living with God-confidence on a consistent basis?
Below is a video of Renee sharing her real life with all of us. Watch it and ask yourself if there is anything that God is prompting you to take away so you can gain more time with him.
Before we part ways today, I'd like to share some extra's that Renee has given us for participating in this study:
Download our Word for the Week: BLESSED (double click the word) to download your FREE printable promise and word for the week, as many times as you want. Stick it everywhere and live like it’s true, girl, cause God wants this for you!
Please read Jeremiah 17:5-8. As you read it, ask God to show You His truth in this passage as it applies to your life – and how it relates to Chapter One where I listed the lies “doubt” whispers or shouts from the sidelines. They really are curses aren’t they?
Journal your thoughts in your notebook and ask God to help you notice this week when you’re tempted to put your hope and find your confidence in the wrong things and people. Then ask Him to help you turn to Him each time for confidence and security that comes from His approval, acceptance and unconditional love.
Friends, I am in this journey with you! Feel free to leave a comment below on how God is building you in His confidence. Next Wednesday we will cover Chapter Two so go ahead and start reading. As always, make sure to check in with Renee's website each Sunday to follow along with her teachings.
Till next time, let your light shine!
