[dropcap][/dropcap]Since I have become a mom, my clothing budget has significantly decreased.  Blame it on diapers and stinkin' cute little girl clothes.  Oh, and a family of four on a single income salary. :)   I'm not complaining, but it is hard sometimes to steer clear of the newest trends in fashion.  I have found this to be a common theme among most stay-at-home moms or for working gals on a budget.  A few weeks ago, one of my friends came up with a solution: a clothing exchange party.

Y'all, it was the best thing ever.  Seriously.  Not only did I get some super fun new clothes, but I also got to have a girls night with my friends.  The rules are simple: everybody bring their old clothes and then you swap.  We had eight people participate in the swap and everyone was able to find clothes to fit them.  Our hostess asked us to bring over our gently-used clothes on hangers and then she separated them by clothing item (shirts, dresses, pants, etc.).  We even brought accessories like purses, jewelry, and shoes.

Before we began the swap, we mingled over appetizers and sweets.  This gave everyone a chance to get to the party before we began (and it was fun just to hang out with no babies!). Then, we all drew numbers.  We started with tops since that was the biggest selection and the first person got to pick and down the line it went.  Then, we did a second round but the first person was moved to the end and the second person got to pick first.  We kept this rotation going through all of the different clothing sections so everyone had a chance to go first.

Our hostess had a mirror set up so we could try on clothes and also provided us with some reusable shopping bags to put our clothes in.  She just collected the hangers in a big bucket and then we could grab as many of our own hangers before we left the party. Trying on clothes with friends made me feel like I was back in college getting ready to go out on a Friday night.  It was so much fun!

What I liked so much about our clothing exchange party was the quality of the clothes.  Friends brought some of their favorite pieces from their wardrobe that they were just tired of wearing.  They weren't ratty garage sale clothes so it really made you feel like you were getting something new that you would wear.  And, boy, have we all worn our "new" clothes!  It is fun seeing your friend wear an item that you once loved.

We are planning to do the clothing exchange party once in the spring and once in the fall.  That way, we keep getting new clothes each season without spending a penny!  And, it is time well-spent with friends.  Give it a go!

Till next time, let your light shine!

Blessings, christen
