Let love and faithfulness never leave my children, but bind these twin virtues around their necks and write them on the tablet of their hearts - Proverbs 3:3
One twin concentrates on the design of her gingerbread house while her sister chooses to eat the candy over decorating with it.  I smile, again noticing how different my identical little girls really are.  My Adeline and Maralee might share the same hair color, eyes, and button noses but God uniquely designed them; just like their houses made of cookie and icing.

To be a twin is a divine gift from the Lord.  He molds two babies at the same time in their mother's womb; asking them to share from the very beginning of their existence.  Yes, one is birthed first, but the other always follows.  Twins are designed to share life together - however different or similar their personalities and looks may be.

Just as twins co-habituate; so can our children share the virtues of love and faithfulness.  Faithfulness is much like Baby B; quickly following Love, (Baby A) out of the womb and into the world.

Love is faithful and faith in love brings fruition out of life.

Loving faithfully is a binding covenant.  Love - "khesed" - is  mercy and faithfulness stems from truth -"emet."  Just as God kept his covenant with Abraham and David, so can we honor our covenant with God by loving his Truth.

Choosing our covenant with the Lord over the desires of our flesh is a proclamation of faith.  When we dress each morn; we adorn Mercy like precious jewels around our necks giving us strength to forgive when the milk is spilled or fill our partners' empty tanks with love.  Writing Truth on our hearts, we stay centered in our faith instead of running around in circles and listening to the "experts" of the flesh.  Families that raise children to love faithfully are committing their lives as obedient servants of Christ.

When I found out I was pregnant with not one baby but two; I was overwhelmed by God's blessing.  Tears welled in my eyes at the thought of him choosing me to be a mother of twins.  Reflecting on this memory, I think of how Mary must have felt when the angel of God told her she would deliver his son.  Can you imagine?  The honor she felt by being chosen by God was written in song of praise, "For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.  He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him (Luke 1:49-50)."

God gave his son to the people of this Earth to teach us what these twin virtues truly mean.  Jesus was a miracle in himself and as he walked among us he performed miracles by healing the sick, changing hearts of men, and loving the unlovable. These surprising events, filled with love and faithfulness, were divine interventions from the Maker of Heaven and Earth.

The day my identical girls were born is a day that I also consider to be a divine miracle.  It was an extraordinary event and because love and faith were written on our hearts we were able to see God's helping hand.  Now, my two year old's are a constant reminder to me of God's mercy and truth.

As my girls grow, I have to remind myself of their individuality.  Adeline might prefer blue over Maralee's choice of pink.  Maralee would rather sing and dance instead of making art with Adeline.  While our intentions as parents of twins are to raise independent girls; their nature of being a twin will always remain.  Adeline and Maralee are united in twinship; much like the words love and faith.  This connection is written beautifully in Psalm 85:10: "Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other."

The act of kissing is an expression of joy! What joy we find when love and faithfulness meet together!  When righteousness and peace kiss each other, all is well in the world.  On the eve of Jesus' birth, the angels were cheering glory, the shepherds hurried through the streets with glee, and the wise men traveled far to lavish the son of God with gifts.  And Mary, holding her precious newborn close, treasured up love and faithfulness; mercy and truth in her heart.

Till next time, let your light shine!

Blessings, christen
