A change of seasons is always exciting. You can finally break out clothes you haven’t worn in a year. There are seasonal activities to do, holidays to celebrate, vacations to be had. Everyone welcomes summer in different ways, but don’t forget an easy way to get in the summer mood: brightening up your home! You don’t have to completely redecorate in order for your home to feel summery. There are many simple, inexpensive ways to make your indoors summer-ready.
1. Add some eye candy
My favorite way to make the transition to summer is to fill my home with fresh flowers. Right now, peonies and hydrangeas are my favorites. However, if you get tired of buying flowers every week, artificial ones are an easy alternative. Stores like HomeGoods or Michaels have lots of beautiful ones that will add the perfect summery touch.
2. Stretch your green thumb
If you’re not much of a flower person or want some more variety, try potted plants. Do a bit of research and shop around for types you like. Don’t forget to read the care instructions when shopping. A good example of easy to care for indoor plants are succulents. They’re a popular option that requires little water.
3. Delight your nose
To really get your home into the summer mood, appeal to the nose. Find wall plugin scents or candles in summery aromas and place one in every room. Your nose will thank you everytime you walk in the door. A great place to stock up on candles and wall fragrances is Bath & Body Works, especially when their semi-annual sale is happening!
4. Say goodbye to warm layers
Maybe you’re already on your A-game, but some of you definitely still have those winter coats, shoes, gloves, and scarves lying around your house. It can be a pain to pack them up, but storing them away will make a noticeable difference in brightening your house. Go a step further by replacing the stuff you put away with beach towels, flip-flops, straw-hats, and ballcaps.
5. Embrace new colors
If you’re looking for a bolder change to make your indoors summer-ready, try switching out some of your basic pieces. Trade in your throw pillows on your couch or bed for brighter, more colorful ones. Switch out your duvet or bedspread for a lighter, summery one. Find new lighter, brighter curtains. Add a colorful linen tablecloth to your dining room table. The possibilities are endless!
These simple and easy changes will make your home’s transition to summer easy!
