Do you ever feel like you are chasing perfection?

When Raleigh and I made the decision to move back to our hometown a few years ago, I was not prepared for how perfection would cause me to experience anxiety and meltdown when parties (and life!) didn't go as planned. I love to celebrate with my people and I try so hard to plan parties that are perfect so we can have memories that we'll never forget. However, I've allowed the pressure of perfection get the best of me before special occasions, which produces self-criticism, unrealistic expectations, and an overwhelmed soul. Instead of enjoying the celebrations, I often find myself curled up in my closet, asking God why I feel like such a failure. I would wonder if there was something wrong with me, and I've spent the last year trying to discover an answer about how to pursue perfection without becoming undone.

If you’ve ever struggled with perfection like me, Invited is for you.

We are called to celebrate, be in community, and believe that connection is far better than perfection. The definition of connection is “a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else.” In Genesis 1, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” Our bodies and our souls are bound to God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Like links on a chain, the Trinity designed us in their image for connection. God invites us to release our anxieties, receive others in love, and rejoice in the moment. We can spend our whole lives trying to practice hospitality perfectly, but God simply wants us to accept His invitation and extend His love to the people we cherish most.

Celebrations, whether they be special occasions, a surprise party, or a spontaneous cookout on a Saturday night, are about spending time with the people we love. Hospitality helps us to pursue Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith, so we can invite others to join us in a party we will never forget. Connected to Christ, we find wholeness, completeness, and beauty so we can celebrate the life we’ve been given.

Join me, and let's believe that we were made for connection, not perfection.

Celebrating you,

Christen
