Today, I'm thrilled to have Jennifer Rothschild stopping by the blog to share about her national women's conference, Fresh Grounded Faith, that is coming to Covenant United Methodist Church in Dothan on February 6th and 7th. Jennifer is a recovering perfectionist who has learned to live beyond limits ever since her life drastically changed at the age of fifteen, when she lost her sight. Now, more than 30 years later, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary. She has shared her practical and inspiring messages to arena-sized audiences across the county, and media outlets including Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, and Life Today. She's the author of ten books, including the best-selling Lessons I Learned in the Dark, Self Talk, Soul Talk, the popular Me, Myself, and Lies Bible study, and her newly released God Is Just Not Fair.
I feel like Jennifer and I have had a conversation over coffee and tea and I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I have! Question: We love that you love coffee! Can you tell us your favorite type of coffee and one of your most memorable conversations over coffee?
JR: I love Starbucks Verona! And, there are so many good conversations that happen over a good cup of coffee so it’s hard to think of just one! But, if I had to pick one of my very favorite, it would have to be over a cappuccino in Paris with my friend Lisa several years ago. It was just an honest conversation that sealed our friendship as the forever kind.
Question: In your latest book, God Is Just Not Fair, you share that this book is for people who need hope when life doesn’t make sense. What advice do you have for people who are also struggling with depression and discontent to find hope in God?
JR: I encourage anyone who is hurting to admit it and invite God into their pain and confusion. Denial is a dangerous choice. It’s okay to admit your pain or disillusionment. In fact, it’s Biblical! Psalm 62 says “Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” The Psalmists did that; they admitted when they were hurt. Pray along with them. Honesty leads to intimacy but repression just leads to greater depression. “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth”. That’s why we admit our pain and invite Him in. He will draw near if you ask Him to. Don’t let your pain be a barrier that keeps you from God, make it a bridge that invites Him in to heal and comfort you.
Question: We are looking forward to your newest study on Hosea. Can you share what readers will be learning? JR: Hosea: Unfailing Love Changes Everything (Lifeway May 2015) is a 7 week video based Bible Study on the book of Hosea. He was the prophet who married an unfaithful wife and in the study, women will be encouraged to see how much she has in common with Hosea’s wife, Gomer. Yes, that is her name! We are all loved and chosen just like Gomer was and we are all prone to wander, leave the God we love. But, the beauty of Hosea is that God is faithful even when we aren’t. He loves us and His love makes us lovely!
Question: What message will you be sharing with the women that attend Fresh Grounded Faith in Dothan?
JR: (as of this writing, unless the Lord changes it)
Women live vibrant lives of faith when they think yes...all God’s promises are Yes and Amen. But, often we find ourselves living a “think no” kind of life and it hand cuffs our faith. Often women live as if not all Gods’ promises are yes …at least not for them! But, when we think yes about all God's promises, we can live yes to the glory of God. At Fresh Grounded Faith, women will learn how to activate God's promises through prayer; access them by faith and apply them so they can live yes! I will unpack the Scripture in 1 Cor. 2:20. And, believe it or not, even Tigger and Eeyore will help us learn the truths of that Scripture and help us determine if we live a “think yes” faith!
