What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.

Once a month, I gather with a group of girls from my church for If:Table. Each month, we are given four questions to discuss over dinner (or brunch!) and we eat, laugh, cry, and pause to talk about life. Y'all, I look forward to these nights almost as much as I'm looking forward to being in a chocolate coma on Valentine's Day!! I've written about our gatherings in my book, Invited: Live a life of connection, not perfection.

Here's a little peek from the book about our time together:

Pulling into the restaurant parking lot, I see my friends’ cars already there. It’s Saturday, and the girls from small group are meeting for brunch to celebrate Galentine’s Day. This month Laura is joining us at the Table. She and her husband had just started attending our small group. Always dressed classically, she’s quiet at first, and I wonder if she is enjoying being with us. Today, my question is answered after we order our waffles, eggs benedict, bacon, and grits. Laura shyly hands each of us a heart that she’s cut out of red construction paper herself, and inside we find a handwritten note, wishing us a happy Valentine’s Day. It’s touching, this gesture, and I gently place the card in my purse as I thank her. While digging into our food, we do our best to answer the question of “How can we, as women, do a better job of seeing each other more clearly, breaking down barriers that separate us?
— Invited, Chapter Seventeen, Galentine's Day

To re-create our first Galentine's Day, we recently met at my friend Catherine's house for a Galentine's Day brunch, inspired by recipes found in the back of the book. For a few hours, we feasted on heart-shaped waffles, a yogurt bar, gorilla bread, quiche, cappuccino brownies, and mimosa's. Look at the fun we had at this party!

Gathering with my girls has been such a gift during this season of book writing. They remind me that my work is not about perfection, but connection. Right now, I've just turned in my final edits for the book, am halfway through writing the supplemental material, filming promotional videos, preparing the website, and getting ready to gather women together for my street team to help me share the message of this book. There is so much to do and having a Sunday afternoon away from the computer did my soul so much good!!!

One of the unique things about my book is each chapter is a party theme, like Galentine's Day. In the back of the book I have a section that is a Party Planning Guide that is filled with inspiration on re-creating the parties written about in the book.
